Radio Newcastle are broadcasting a footy v rugby quiz on boxing day.

It's going to be broadcast at 5.45 PM after the phone in. Simon Pryde is the quiz master (doing a fine Sue Barker style job he tells us)

The Quiz features a football team (Steve Harper as well as Caldwell plus guest Jonathan Edwards) against a rugby union team (Dave Walder and Stuart Grimes from the Newcastle Falcons plus guest Simon Leach from the Vipers' ice hockey team).

It's quite light-hearted, yet competitive and SAFC feature in the "What Happened Next Round" as well as elsewhere!

Poooooooooom to stay at Arsenal

Despite what many would see as a goalkeeping crisis at SAFC, Mart Poom's loan period at Arsenal has been extended from December until the end of the season.

Poom's contract is due to expire at the end of this season when he will become a free-agent again so it looks very much like we have seen the last of him.

McCarthy has now been linked with Israeli keeper Nir Davidovic and the official website are reporting that Davidovic will train at Sunderland this week.
