Ex-Sunderland connection continues at Hartlepool

Newly-appointed Monkey Hangers' gaffer Martin Scott has completed the signing of former Sunderland striker Michael Proctor.

Proctor joined Sunderland as a trainee in the summer of 1997, just short of his 17th birthday, and after loan spells at Hvidovre, Halifax, York and Bradford, left Sunderland in February 2004 in a swap deal which saw him heading to Rotherham in exchange for Darren Byfield.

Rotherham sent him on a three month loan to Swindon Town earlier this year but his spell at Millmoor has ended now, and he's headed back to the north east and signed for Scotty at Victoria Park.

Scott said of his new striker, "He's shown throughout his career that he can play at this level. He's a player that I know a lot about due to my Sunderland connections - I'm very pleased to get him on board."
