SAFC issues 'retained' list

Sunderland AFC today announced its retained list for the 2005-06 season.

Out of contract players who have been released include - Marcus Stewart, Jeff Whitley, Brian Deane and Michael Ingham. Young pros Ryan Bell, Lewis Dodds, Chris Kingsberry and Richie Ryan have also left the Club.

Sunderland Chief Executive Peter Walker said; “A number of players who were out of contract in the summer have been released as we prepare for the challenge of the Premier League. Several players who remain on the retained list due to contractual obligations have been told that they can look for new clubs and of course there will be new faces coming in over the summer.”

Mark Lynch, Michael Bridges and Sean Thornton remain under contract with SAFC but have been advised that they can seek new clubs.

The retained list shows those players currently under contract with SAFC and as such players whose contracts have expired but remain in discussions with Club are not listed.
