Murray won't reveal transfer budget

Sunderland chairman Bob Murray has spoken out as many supporters wonder how much financial backing Mick McCarthy will be given to strengthen his squad as the club heads back to the Premiership.

Sunderland have been linked with a multitude of players but Murray said today, "In no other business would you reveal what money is available for spending - it does not help you in the market."

He said that the manager was fully aware of the financial constraints that the club still operates under, and has given the Chairman a list of his summer transfer targets.

"Mick knows what our budget is and we're working to it", he said. "We will be helping Mick however we can and will back him to the best of our ability - as we did last season with the biggest net spend on transfers outside the Premiership.

"Our aim is to deliver the best squad possible within our financial resources and maximise our ability to compete in the top flight."
