SAFC launch charity wristbands

Sunderland AFC has joined the increasing number of organisations selling wristbands to raise money for charity.

Mick McCarthy this morning launched "SAFC Foundation: Lighting up Lives" wristbands at the Stadium of Light which go on sale at the SoL Club Shop and ticket office tomorrow (Saturday 23rd April).

They'll also be on sale outside the Stadium on the day of the final game of the season, against Stoke City, on Sunday 8th May.

The wristbands, which are red, will be available in both adult and child sizes and will set you back £1, with all proceeds going to the SAFC Foundation.

Sunderland AFC Foundation, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC, aims to raise aspirations, educational attainment and personal achievement of young people in the local area using football related projects.

To be able to deliver these projects, helping 40,000 young people each year, SAFC Foundation has to raise funds and the sale of these customized wristbands will go directly to supporting local youngsters.

The Sunderland players wore these wristbands in support of the Foundation's anti-bullying scheme, during the home game against Cardiff City in February - and those bands will be auctioned on the SAFC website from this weekend, with the auction open for two weeks. Again, all proceeds go to SAFC Foundation.

Foundation director Lesley Spuhler said: "This is a fantastic way of supporting the Foundation, with every penny helping to support local youngsters through our many schemes. The wristbands are seen as fashion accessories so we're expecting a huge demand for them."
