Advance warning of Queen Alex Bridge restrictions

SAFC would like to advise their supporters of forthcoming repair work on the Queen Alexandra Bridge, which will commence Monday 21st March 2005.

The bridge, one of the primary routes across the River Wear, is to undergo extensive refurbishment over the next 12 months, resulting in traffic management implications which may affect supporters attending games.

The bridge will be restricted to southbound traffic only, with all northbound traffic being diverted.

Due to the restrictions, buses and HGV's will be unable to cross the bridge. Stagecoach services will terminate either side of the bridge, allowing passengers to cross on foot and Go-Ahead intend to divert services over Wearmouth Bridge.

Supporters are advised to use alternative routes wherever possible.

SAFC Safety Manager John Davidson said: "We would advise supporters who normally use the Queen Alexandra Bridge to find an alternative route during the repair work to avoid potential congestion and to also allow extra time for their journey to take into account increased levels of traffic on other routes.

"We advocate the use of the Park and Ride system which operates each matchday from Sunderland Business Park."
