Rush tips Collins for success

Former international footballer now Chester City manager Ian Rush has tipped Danny Collins to be a success with Sunderland.

Collins aged 24 signed for us yesterday from Chester on a four year deal for £140,000.

Rush said of the young defender, "I'd been told he couldn't play in a 4-4-2 formation, only as a third centre-back. But he has worked really hard on the training pitch and I think he is even better as one of two centre-backs now.

"He can play there with no problems, and he is willing to learn, which is another reason he can be a success at Sunderland."

Former Welsh international Rush, now 42, told BBC News how sorry he was to let Collins go.

"I'd have loved him to stay but it's the same as when I left here as a player - the offer was the right one.

I'm sorry to lose him but it's a chance for the player and that's the kind of club we are - we won't stand in anyone's way. "
