Everton reserves 0 SAFC reserves 4

Sunderland reserves recorded a cracking win over David Moyes' second string on their own home turf tonight, with loan striker Simon Johnson bagging two goals.

Jocky Scott's side were looking for their first win of the season and had picked up just one point from their opening six fixtures.

But there was no space in the squad for John Oster, suggesting that his time at Sunderland may now be coming to an end after five years with us.

The defeat was the heaviest at home for the Toffees' reserves in over six years.

Jocky Scott's side were denied a penalty shout in only the fourth minute of the game at Haig Avenue tonight. Then only minutes later, Sean Thornton intercepted an Everton pass and netted from 20 yards out.

Only eleven minutes later it was Neil Teggart's turn, finishing from close range after some sloppy defending from the home side.

Six minutes further on, Toffees keeper Sean Lake brought down Simon Johnson in the area; the ref awarded a penalty, which Johnson converted with ease.

Despite going in at the break 3-0 down at home, the Toffees came out for the second half looking determined to make amends, with Michael Ingham having to make several solid saves.

But even with the home side looking to reduce the deficit, Simon Johnson managed to put another goal away with only 14 minutes of the match remaining.

Sunderland: Ingham, Lynch, Ryan, Dickman, Collins (Christensen 82), Clark, Lawrence, Thornton (Kingsberry 79), Teggart (Wanless 77), Johnson, Carter
Goals: Thornton 11, Teggart 22, Johnson 28 (pen), 76.
