Midfielder in on loan

Sunderland AFC today completed the signing of Birmingham City midfielder Darren Carter on a three-month loan.

The deal sees Carter, 20, link up with the Black Cats until December 2004.

Commenting on the deal, Manager Mick McCarthy said: "I'm absolutely delighted to secure the signing of Darren. He's a central midfielder and a left footer, with great presence on the field. I've watched and admired him for a long time so it's great to be able to bring him to the Club - he'll be good addition to our squad. "

The England U20 international scored the crucial penalty that at the Millennium Stadium that secured the Blues' promotion to the Premiership.
