Game on!

The club say tonight's match against Crewe Alexandra at the Stadium of Light WILL go ahead despite prolonged torrential rain.

Much of southern England suffered the monsoon-like conditions on Sunday, but the weather front has affected the midlands and north of England on Monday and Tuesday, with many supporters fearing a postponement if the pitch is waterlogged.

But the club says there is little or no surface water on the pitch and the playing surface is in good condition.

John Fickling told Sky Sports News tonight, "The pitch has stood up to (the weather) very, very well - it's in very good condition."
