Reidy signs up Sunderland old boy

Peter Reid has signed up SAFC old-boy Andy Marriott ahead of tomorrow's opening day match between Sunderland and Coventry.

Marriott has signed a one month deal at Highfield Road, effective immediately, after impressing Reid during a recent trial.

Reid has been searching for cover to Scott Shearer since a wrist injury ruled 19-year-old Richard Brush out of the start of the season.

Marriott came to Sunderland on loan from Wrexham in August 1998 and signed for Reid a month later, for £200,000. He stayed for three years, but made only five senior appearances in that time.
