ITV announces league TV coverage details

ITV has confirmed what it will be offering viewers this season in the way of coverage of league football matches.

Every Sunday morning, a 45 minute programme simply called "The Championship" will be shown in all ITV regions. The programme will give viewers extended highlights of two Championship matches as well as highlights of some League One and League Two matches. This weekend's show goes out at 10.15am on Sunday 8th August.

"The Championship" will be hosted by Matt Smith with analysis from Andy Townsend, Ally McCoist and Robbie Earle. Match commentaries are by Clive Tyldesley, Peter Drury and Jon Champion.

Each individual ITV region will show very brief highlights from matches involving teams in their area, in Saturday late afternoon news bulletins, with midweek action included in regional midweek news.

Also for the individual regions there will be a new programme every Thursday night containing highlights from the most recent league matches where teams in the area were involved, also previewing local teams' forthcoming weekend matches.

Highlights from Carling Cup matches will be transmitted on the network starting from round three.
