Burchill not good enough?

Mick McCarthy has confirmed officially that trialist Mark Burchill has returned to Portsmouth FC and will not be offered a contract.

Both Burchill and Wolves striker Nathan Blake had a week's trial with the Lads, as part of McCarthy's hunt for a new striker; Blake ended his trial to follow up interest from Micky Adams' Leicester City, and Mick confirmed to SAFC.com today that Burchill just didn't fit the bill.

"Burchill is back at Portsmouth," he said. "He's not the type of striker we're looking for. I'm looking for a striker who's good with his left foot, right foot, quick and who can score goals! We'll keep looking."

On the subject of Blake, he said "I'm disappointed that Nathan decided to go elsewhere but there's nothing I can do.

"They've [Leicester] made him an offer and he's back down there closer to home. Dave Bassett has worked with him before. He knew of him, came in and offered him a contract and he accepted it."
