New boys set for Scunthorpe show

Mick McCarthy is preparing to give some of the club's new signings a run-out at tonight's game at Scunthorpe.

Dean Whitehead, Stephen Caldwell and Mark Lynch are set to play.

McCarthy is keen to give all squad members a run-out before the season proper gets under way. He told the club's official site, "I will give the other lads who were at Barnsley but didn't play chance tonight - the likes of Mark Lynch, Dean Whitehead and Sean Thornton - but they won't all get 90 minutes.

"Probably Julio [Arca] and George [McCartney] will share the game and I will also try to split the forwards up because Marcus Stewart has played every game so far."

Dean Whitehead revealed how much he's looking forward to showing the supporters what he's capable of.

"I can't wait for the season to start now. I didn't play at Barnsley but the gaffer has said that he will make changes tonight and I am looking forward to having the chance to play.

"I have come from a League Two club and it is a big step up but I am a confident lad and I want to show the fans here what I can do."
