Robinson Contract Confirmed

The club today completed the signing of Portsmouth midfielder Carl Robinson, who joins the club on a permanent basis from 1 July. Carl is secured on a two-year contract tying him to the Club until 30 June 2006.

The 27 year-old, who spent a three-month loan spell at the end of last season, will join Sunderland on a transfer with a fee linked to appearances and success.

Mick McCarthy expressed his delight at the deal, saying: “Carl came in and did a great job for us at the end of last season. I’m delighted to secure a player of his experience and ability.”

Commenting on his new deal, Carl said: “I'm really pleased to have signed a 2-year contract Sunderland. The chance to play for one of the biggest and best supported club’s in Britain is a dream come true.

“ I think Mick McCarthy is one of the best managers in the game. I’m really looking forward to working with him, he’s got masses of experience and I’m sure I can improve as a player under his coaching.

From a personal point of view this is a fantastic move for me and my family and we're looking forward to settling in the North East."
