New club sponsorship deal announced

Reg Vardy plc, one of Europe's biggest motor retailers, is once again committing to be the driving force behind Sunderland AFC, having extended its sponsorship of the club.

The Black Cats today announced that Sunderland-based motor retail group, Reg Vardy plc, has signed a four-year agreement worth an undisclosed sum to continue as club sponsor until 2008.

Reg Vardy has an annual turnover of approximately £1.6bn and sells 200,000 vehicles a year. The group has 85 dealerships from Reading to Aberdeen.

SAFC chairman, Bob Murray, commented on the extended partnership, saying: "The club has a long standing relationship with Reg Vardy and we are thrilled that they have again given us their support.

"By committing to remain as main club sponsor, Reg Vardy will have supported the club for almost a decade. It's a privilege to have the emblem of such a prestigious national Sunderland based company on our shirts."

Sir Peter Vardy, chief executive of Reg Vardy plc, said: "The partnership we have had with Sunderland since 1999 has been very successful for Reg Vardy in helping us to develop our brand nationally.

"Thanks to the efforts of Bob Murray, the management and players, Reg Vardy is a name that is recognised now by millions of people around the country.

"We have been delighted to support our local club and are very pleased to be announcing a further four-year extension to the partnership.”

Reg Vardy has been the shirt sponsor of Sunderland AFC since 1999. The initial three-year agreement was extended for a fourth season last year.
