Dichio on loan - with our next oppo!

Former Sunderland striker Danny Dichio has gone to Millwall on loan - and could face his former Black Cats team-mates when the two teams meet this weekend in London.

Dichio, 29, signed for Sunderland in January 1998 and made 97 appearances in just under four years at the Stadium of Light, scoring 18 times.

The move has come about as Millwall need cover while on-loan Nick Chadwick (Everton) recovers from a hernia operation, unlikely to return to action until mid-February. Dichio arrived at Millwall's training ground on Tuesday morning with Lions' assistant manager Ray Wilkins, to commence training with his new colleagues.

Millwall's player-manager Dennis Wise said of Dichio's move, "We tried to sign Danny before, but West Brom had a few problems at that time so we've had to wait. He then had an operation five or six weeks ago but he's fine now. He's been training for three weeks and he'll suit us nicely.

"Danny's a big striker who holds the ball up well, he's good on the ball, scores goals and frightens the life out of defenders.

"He's got the chance to train with the lads for a few days before the Sunderland game."

Dichio will be at the New Den until February 9th, and will be eligible to play in Millwall's FA Cup 4th round game against Telford, as well as their league fixtures against Crewe and Stoke.
