Newcastle discount Caldwell loan rumours

Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson has quashed rumours that Steve Caldwell could be on his way to the Stadium of Light in a loan deal.

Rumours that Mick McCarthy wanted to take Caldwell on loan have been doing the rounds since September but Sir Bobby has spoken out in an attempt to stop the stories.

"Jonathan Woodgate could be out for three weeks because he has a tear in his hamstring," said Sir Bobby. "Steve Caldwell is going nowhere.

"Caldwell says he is desperate for a game and he could get his chance on Saturday at Charlton.

"I have a lot of faith in him because he is a great competitor. He plays with a lot of courage and we know that he won't let us down."
