SAFC through to 4th round of FA Youth Cup

Sunderland are progressing well in the FA Youth Cup, beating Charlton 2-0 on their own patch tonight to progress to the 4th Round.

After Chris Kingsberry missed a penalty and Sunderland also had a goal disallowed, Dan Smith scored Sunderland's first on 71 minutes, connecting with a Niall Flynn header.

Jack Wanless then scored Sunderland's second on 83 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Youth team coach Ged McNamee said: "There were several outstanding performances, notably from Grant Leadbitter and Niall Flynn, but it would be tough to single out anyone, it was an all round good team performance."

Sunderland: Alnwick, Taylor, Bell, Dodds, D. Smith, Kingsberry, Clarkeson, Flynn, A. Smith, Leadbitter, Wanless.
