Hornet becomes a Black Cat

Sunderland AFC have just confirmed that they have agreed terms with Watford FC for the transfer of striker Tommy Smith.

The fee is undisclosed and the player is now in the process of negotiating personal terms.

The Bosman ruling does not apply to players such as Smith who are under 24, so because Watford offered the player a new contract in the summer, rights to a compensation fee being payable on his departure were protected for a further year.
