Flo: you didn't see me at my best

Outward-bound striker Tore Andre Flo has apologised to Sunderland supporters for the disappointing way things turned out after his record money move to the club last August.

Flo broke the club's transfer record, signing for an estimated £6.75m only hours before the transfer window closed last August, raising hopes on Wearside that at last the club had an established big-name player who could make the difference.

But although he scored on his Sunderland debut against Manchester United, the Norwegian international scored only four Premiership goals in total for the whole season, and is now set to complete a transfer to Serie A side AC Siena next week.

Flo said yesterday, "I feel sorry for the fans because I never felt that I was able to show them my best during my time at the club. I'm excited about this new opportunity but I'm going to miss all my team-mates at Sunderland.

"I have taken the initiative and decided to move to Siena because I understand that is the best thing for myself and for my family and also for Sunderland Football Club.

"I'm hoping to make a big contribution for Siena this season. I know the Italian league is a very hard championship but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
